I was not trying to bash his dream, just wanted to point out potential problems he might encounter with this configuration. Based on the parts he posted, it will cost him over $1000 in parts to get this boat in the water. I would hate to find out that on the first run, his boat gets destroyed and this investment sinks to the bottom of the lake. To reliably power 1/12 scale Bud, you should not need to spend this kind of money even if you went with CC and Neu. Hydra 120 + Neu 1512/2D + 3S1P 5000 mAh LiPo cost about $600. It will be even cheaper if he went with Feigao motor and some Chinese ESC.

The point is that people HAVE stretched the boundaries and they try to tell people what they found when they got there!!

Plus, everyone seems to have a different definition of "what works" means. To me what works means you can do one of two things.

1) run a 1-mile oval heat race

or

2) run SAWS runs.

What works does NOT mean to me hauling butt for 50 feet, flying off the water and retrieving the boat and then doing it again.

It also means having an equipment set up that is not going to meltdown the minute it is put to use or will otherwise not be reliable.

I have no idea what your DF 33 set up is or who told you that it would not work or why. But in the case at hand I think it is abundantly clear that what the OP wanted to do has a very low probability of success. Turning a motor, any motor, at 60,000 rpm or more in a 24" hull is very unlikely to work. And I am not sure how he was going to stuff a 5S or 6S 8,000 mAh pack into that small of a boat in the first place (like he said he wanted to do).

What I cannot understand is how you and some others seem to confuse constructive criticism with "bashing".

Im with you, if people never stretched the boundaries we would still be running 41" fountains in N1 and speeds would still be in the 30's at best

Let the guy build his rocketship.
He simply asked for prop suggestions, so give him what he wants, don't kill his dream.
It might work and then we will have more options opened to us.
If no one was willing to try anything new we would all have rubberband powered boats.

That being said I have no idea what prop you should use.

Well, I don't see it as "bashing his dreams". It is more like trying to save him a whole truckload of frustration and expense. People who posted tried to share their experience with similar set ups. People know what works, and what does not work.

Sort of like if he posted that he had a 1963 VW Beetle that he planned on putting a 60,000 SHP turbine in and wanted to know what tires we recommended.

True it "might work" but a whole boat load of experience says that it probably will not.

I agree with the other posts, anything above 4S is insane and a waste of power. You will not be able to keep the boat on the water.

I have a 24-inch hydro, a H&M Viper. With a Lehner 1940/8 (1959 Kv) on 4S1P turning a x637 prop it just touches 60 mph and it is nearly impossible to keep on the water and is really not a whole lot of fun to drive.

When you start getting too much over 30,000 rpm all you are doing is wasting power.

Whoa, hold on there turbo.......... A 1521/1D on 6S in THAT hull?


That is a light plastic hull that is probably not up to the task structurally. You will be much happier in the end if you make it into a N-2, SSH, or LSH setup.

N-2 is a 2S setup with an appropriate motor, SSH uses the SV-27 (cheap) system on 4S, and LSH uses a Speed 700 on 4S. A good N-2 setup will put you in the 50s (with a top-end motor); SSH in the low to mid 40s, and LSH in the high 30s~low 40s.

If I had that hull, I would go for an N-2 arrangement with a "sport" motor. Something like a Feigao 540L.

Chuck, that Neu will probably tear the Miss Bud in half - it would be a real shame to do something like that to such a cool boat.

I still think you should go for a nice 2S2P setup, or an SV27 combo on 4S1P, as I recommended in your last thread.

That boat was never designed or manufactured to handle 50 - 60 mph. You could probably get into the 40s, and it would be one of the sweetest looking boats on the pond.

Unfortunately, my computer is completely trashed when it comes to emailing or posting pictures. I havn't been able to electronically send pictures forever and it's really frustrating because I miss being able to share things with family and friends. Being unemployed right now really, really sucks. I can't afford to have my computer fixed and I can't finish my boat projects, so all I can do is gather as much info from the pros as I can and continue to lay out plans. I can tell you this though, the hydro is a vintage MRP Miss Budweiser that I got still wrapped in protective plastic in the original box in kit form from the early 90's that I miraculously found on ebay back in May. I had this same exact boat when I was 13 years old and I tried to modify it back then with my thirteen year-old brain and the parts available at the time and the project literally disintigrated on me. It was a complete disaster! So I guess you could say this second and final attempt to appease a childhood dream turned disaster has turned into a lust for success! I am so totally infatuated with the hobby of fast electric boating that I can't sleep some nights and I think my passion for the hobby gets me to thinking that "It's Never Fast Enough"!!!

I havn't actually purchased any batteries yet, but was planning on going with an 8000mah capacity lipo setup because of the power hungry nature of the 1521/1D motor.
