It doesn't matter if the ESC is 20 amps or 2000. The load is the load (motor and prop)
Also, paralleling packs of the same manufacturer, capacity, c rate, age and # of cycles is perfectly fine.
BTW I run Hyperions and for me they are worth every penny.

Never said I was superior, just wish others would read and understand posts before trying to make a point which was clearly supported in the first place. If something as simple as this discourages you from the RC hobby, then you my friend, need to consider the possibility that maybe a hobby in general is not the right fit for someone as uptight as yourself.

From the last couple of seasons' experience in my P spec hydro: Turnigy 4S 4000 mah 40C packs lasted one season. They didn't puff after a heat like the nano-tech packs, but gave little warning before dying. The Turnigy Nano-tech 4S 4000 mah packs (rated 40 C when I bought them) don't seem to be as durable. One died and seriously puffed last weekend, while the other is still running with minor puffing and slightly increased internal resistance. Probably the boat needs 5000 mah rating in the less expensive packs, but size is an issue. Gens Ace 53000 mah packs fit in my P spec tunnel and look more promising. Higher priced cells will be worth it if they survive more than one season. the Grim Racer packs look like a middle cost solution.

I still fail to see how this will lead to "fire". If a 40c pack is able to supply sufficient current on its own, how will two in parallel cause fire. Even if one pack is working more then another both packs are capable of supplying the desired amount of current.

Yes, the current draw is driven directly by the motor and the amount of load/prop you put on it. And yes, in THEORY, the batteries should share the load, but in reality, they don't. The packs would have to be identical in every way. Not just mah and voltage, but cells used, construction, internal resistance, wire length etc. So there's a very good chance that one pack is getting more drawn from it than the other.
