I used a couple in my old Thornycroft Torpedo boat.
They are located just in front of the step either side of the keel.
Yes in 1914 they had stepped hull Torpedo boats.
This boat would be lucky to reach 20mph & there is plenty of water flow from them. So I'm sure they would work on your airboat at the transom
Here's a pic of the underside of the hull during construction, showing the step & one of it on the run.
I don't have a pic of them installed but I could take one if you want.

I've noticed that as well on my prop wash pickups but I chalked it up to slower speeds lets the siphon idea take effect and you once more need to fill the tubing as speed increases. Check valves would not help ( I don't think) as it would be a restriction in the flow. I just need to learn how to run balls out all the time!

The ones in my Genesis work as long as the boat is on plane. When at full throttle, and I let off, the water stops coming out only when the ride pads are completely submerged.

Yup, 1/2" forward of the transom and see what happens. I have never used them so I'm not sure what to expect but it will be a learning experience all the same. Thanks

Just make sure to place them as far back as possible since that surface will be in the water more then any other surface of the hull.

I have used it in several boats and have had no problems. I have used it in most of my builds. The propwash ones work best but each have their own places . Ive ran in in my 36 in twin cat and have had no heat problems.

No swampy water or muck but the more I think about the in hull pickups, the better they sound as far as speed but not sure. A FAST boat may glide over the water faster with less water whereas a slower boat may pickup more. I don't know. I'll try the in hull thing and go from there as I am at the point of making a decision and I hate that!

you could try it out. Install the pick up then make a couple of passes. If you see water coming out of the outlet then you are good. If not then looks like you may need a little pump. Since it is an air boat do you plan on running in mucky/swampy water?
If that is the case water cooling may be a problem all together.

I'm only wanting to cool the ESC as the EDF has an outrunner that is a puller like you said, and yes, I am copying Chops boat. I liked it and had to try my hand at it. Nope, not ACE28 dad.

Aren't you ACE28's dad? May be super close friend, not sure. BTW EDF- i saw where they make pumps for such situations which would be spot on for your airboat. I have airboats but run outrunner's that are pullers.. Ok, there's this guy named CHOP from near Green Bay,Wisc., who posts on here and made a similiar setup as yours but never heard anything about cooling his motor. I believe Jeff Wholt posted something about pumps here not long ago. Do a search.

as long as your boat comes up on plane you will be fine, slower then that and i'd put a pick up in the prop wash.

I cant answer your question as I have never and will never use a transom mounted pickup, but I will say that they work well enough under 30mph cooling the brushes and cans of my 540 motors and still work well enough cooling cans and ESCs on brushless setups at higher speeds.
If i have a pickup in my rudder I will use that instead though as the rudder is in the water for a greater proportion of the time than the hull is especially at higher speeds.
