Racing is really fun for sure, but the amount of knowledge you can gain by racing and hanging out with experienced racers is immense.
FE racers are also some of the friendliest people I've met. I believe I am a more helpful and generally friendlier person due to the examples set by my FE buddies.

While bashing boats is always fun...only when racing with other similar setups do you get a feel for what "speed" really is and how to use it.

I guess I've been put off by one too many threads on the usual "gimme...gimmee..giimmeee more speed" topics.

Anyone who has not raced (even bashing boats with a friend would do) is missing out on something (I know there are lots of valid reasons people can't get to events).

We had an event this past weekend ....and side by side running at low40ish Mph on some 4S boats is really a blast..... where you start to forget about top speed and concentrate more on keeping lanes, water conditions, crossing rooster tails , not colliding , etc....its a whole different tangent of the hobby that a lot of pepole have no idea about.

Anyone can overprop/ over-voltage a set up and hit the throttle to go fast in a straight line. (No disrespect to the SAW guys intended, ).

If you can get to some event, even as a spectator, do it......you will soon see that the quest for "speed" is often overrated.

Then, get up enough guts to join in with your boats....see if you actually use all of that so called "speed".

The number one thing non-racers are missing is the comradery. Thats what hooked me on racing. And thats why I pushed for FE racing in my district. As far as boat speed, I had two of the most satisfying heats I have ever run this past weekend and I wasnt the fastest boat out there. I had a great start and stayed on the pins for six laps. The faster boats caught up to me and were hanging in my roostertail, but they couldnt get around me. Now that was fun!!!

Absolutely !! I couldn't agree more ; actually I've wanted to share these same thoughts numerous times but held my tongue out of fear of offending the ZSP/WTS crowd. There's so much to learn and totally enjoy by racing, even, as you pointed out, if you just play race with your buddies. There's much more to FE than faster...faster.

I work to improve constantly... which is the heart of racing.
Competition just creates an up to date scale for practical measurement of such improvements. =)

And it's important to choose your race class wisely; here I am prior to a first place heat 5 finish at the Camarillo Pond Rats District 19 Points race. (Being able to see over your competitor's heads in the turns is a distinct advantage.)

I am a racer... I really wish we could get more racers... Coming from the Nitro side of boating, I really enjoy traveling meeting, new racers, and BS'ing inbetween heats.

It seems with the FE racing crowd, it's an unwritten rule to bring and race as many boats as possible which leaves little time for chatting..
