SV motor on a gear drive.....

Flying is correct. A 700 will be at-least 10-15% less in the power area. I hope that they don't expect guys with 700's to have to compete against aqua bl motors. That's not a fair race.

[QUOTE=FE_Chris;14158]The thing is, the boat is going to be raced in the LSO class. They told me they allow the SV motor to be used because it develops about the same amount of power as a 700 size motor.
Chris, if that is true the SV 27 is a great choice. I think it will spank a 700 size motor with the right prop.

Well, the gear is already in the boat. If it's not mounted all crazy and epoxyed in like mad, then thats what I am gonna do. But the boat is not here yet, so I am just planning on it being all tied up to the hull.
Removing the gear drive is something to think about. This boat is really only going to be raced, it's not a fun runner, or atleast thats not how im putting it together as. I was just wanting to leave the gear box in maybe incase I wanted to toss a 9xl or something in the hull for some fun runs.
Thanks fellas. You always seems to have a way of enlightening me. haha

With todays power systems and a smaller hull why bother with the box?

SV motor on a gear drive.....
OK...Im going to be racing the Titan29 I have coming. My setup is as follows.
Titan29
BK 70amp 6-16 cell ESC
SV 27 Brushless Motor
FDM Gear drive
4s1p Lipo or 12 Nimh cells
I have no idea where to start with gears. I kinda do on props. I have quite a few props and the boat is coming with a couple more. I was going to start out on the x440 and work up from there.
But gears....I have absolutly no idea where to start on the gearing. The motor is already a 6-pole motor....1400 or so KV....I do believe anyway....so tourqe is not an issue. but gearing it down seems like it might not work all that well.
I was thinking of gearing it 1:1 and just running it thay way to see how it works. I know i'll loose some efficency through the gear box...just thinking....
any comments or ideas welcome!!!!Tags: None
Gear drives are really ment for larger hulls with some weight to them. I would just run it direct save the extra setup up work
