If the teeth are the same on both gears the ratio will be 1-1

If it will fit, run it. I use some cigarette paper between the gears when I mount the motor for a spacer. Helps you from wearing out the gears and stripping them.

let me ask something, maybe a dumb question, but I wanna make sure. To get a 1:1 ratio, does it matter if I use 2x 80 tooth gears, or 2x 40 tooth gears? I picked up a couple of 81t gears and just got to thinking....

I would start with an X440 on 1/1.2 overdrive then add more pitch. That will increase your rpm and load by 20%.

I may try this on my next build using dual drive SV motors in a Mean Machine hull on overdrive with one set of batteries and M442/LR props. Hmmmm...............

I was thinking the same thing ReddyWatts. The thing is, how much smaller on the prop can you really go? The stock SV27 runs good with a x440/3, thats the prop I ran and my temps where warm on the motor/esc but not to hot. Well if you use fluid's 80% rule, that means that I could maybe run up to a 50mm prop, tops. Betting something in the x445 range.

The pics below are of how FDM builds them. So I am thinking I am going to leave the gear box in. I have used them before, and I have one now in my XL Cat. it works well.

I am going to gear it 1:1 or as close as I can (have to get some gears at the LHS), find a decent prop.....then maybe play with the overdrive idea some... We'll see how motor temps pan out. The ESC and lipos should be bullet proof with this motor.

The gentleman I purchased it from called me today and said he shipped it UPS 2-day so I should have it friday. I have everything else I need and more to get this boat going. And I have a GPS. So this is gonna be a experiment with the little SV motor......and it's gonna have to happen quick. The next race is oct 7th.

What about running the SV motor with a smaller prop on overdrive?

The 6 pole motor should handle the torque.

I would have to not quite agree with that, I have watched a 700 mono on 12 ib 4200s against 3 SV27 on ib 4200s go head to head on many occasions, I know that 700 mono placed 1st or 2nd almost every race it entered.

A single 4s pack would be more than enough for 700 motors, you should see how they run on 2 2s packs in series, especially in a hydro!

I Agree. The only way to even attempt to level that out is to let the 700 boats run a 4s2p..& the bl boats run Nimh. Thats still a maybe.

If you set up the same boat and swapped motors and prop, the aqua motor will be faster in a straight line.

I guess thats the way they run them now and everyone is happy. Still, the points leader runs a 700 motor, and 12 nicads.

So really, Titan29 700 powered, Vs. Titan29 SV27 Motor powered you guys think the SV motor powered boat will win hands down?
