Ok, should I bump the timming up some for my 8XL?
The motor did die on me and I'm not sure why, so I orderd a 9XL and should have that this week..

The timing actually should be much higher than 7* for a 6 pole motor

Possibly then, the UL-1 esc is set to 7*
and my HM200A is at 1 or 2*
That would explain the difference!

Ok, that just made me think of something
does the UL-1 esc have some timming in it?
maybe thats why their was a noticable difference..

When I had this ESC with a Feigao 9XL, when changing the timing from 2 to 7 there was a very noticeable difference. Maybe it is a timing difference between the two ESCs.

I also set mine to option 4 in start up mode. I believe, from working with full size variable frequency speed drives with soft start, the start up current spike is a lot less. A bit easier on the ESC.
Definitely select the No Brake option. I am familiar with dynamic braking & generated voltages but Disar posted an article on it in relation to ESCs that puts the concept across clearly & concisely. Thanks Disar. Everyone should read this.

If the brake function is set to 'ON' The Himodel ESC automatically brakes for 3 seconds, I think, when you release the throttle.

If you simply google PWM you can learn as much or as little about Pulse Width Modulation as you like.
As others have suggested, low timing to start with. Its the only one I ever use. I've never tried higher myself though.

Perhaps selecting 'Option 1' in start up mode might give you full range. It should be set at the factory as default setting, but ...Who knows?
Also I have heard that some transmitters require the endpoint adjustments to be taken out to 125% to get full range on some ESCs. I'm not sure personally, but someone will be able to advise on that .

In the manual. Does anyone know exactly what "Full Open" and "Full Close" mean? I would think that "Full Open" is the same as Full throttle.

Thanks Douggie, esc is new ad I am using a 8XL new, timming is set to defalt.. I think that is 1* for 2-4 pole motors..

Kinda like to jump into this thread, if that's ok..
I have the 200A version in my Mean Machine and have noticed I am not getting full revs out of my motor?
I have no idea why this is.. I put this esc in my UL-1 and pulled the trigger and noticed it does not have the peak rpms like the UL-1 esc..

anyone have any ideas why?

2 degrees is safer, 7 degrees may increase your speed but motor will run hotter and more amps. Start with 2 and check temps, then try 7 and check again. No brake

Being that it is a 2 pole motor, I would go with 2 degrees on the timing, option 1.

7 degrees...no brake..soft start, my 2 cents on a controller I have never used
